Everyone who lived in Russia during the Soviet era was guaranteed housing. The housing wasn’t guaranteed to be good. The family here and a few otherwise homeless kids here lived in a Krushchevki or Kruschev apartment. ”Kruschchevki” rhymes with ”trushchoby,” the Russian word for slum.
This reminds me of couch surfing in Fargo, North Dakota. For some reason, I’ve always used Siberia as a metaphor for Fargo. I wonder why?
As the Soviet Union collapsed, Americans were gathering up Soviet goods (such as Ukranian tanks and weapons) at cheap prices and selling them for a tidy profit. Mc Donald’s began selling burgers as luxury food. In the Velvet Rasputin world, American mutant rabbits were renting out rooms in abandoned apartment buildings that were too expensive to demolish.
