Camello Basma was going to “rescue” Marlborina. By “rescue” I mean kidnapping – which would’ve been the only way to prevent her from being married off. Marlborina doesn’t seem at all bothered by that, and in fact rather annoyed that he didn’t kidnap before she faked the loss of her virginity. That’s because kidnapping is sometimes the only way to marry the girl you love without paying for the privilege in more traditional Rroma communities.
