In Definace of the Kris
Cultural Note
Being stripped of one’s citizenship is bad enough. Camello’s predicament is much worse. By being deemed gadje, Camello has been stripped of his entire cultural identity as well as his ethnic ties. Permanent marime and banishment from a kumpania represent some of the most degrading forms of punishments in the Roma world. This judgement is typically reserved for murderers, rapists, some types of adultery and those who commit incest. Having said that, the ruling that the krisnitorya has reached seems to have opened a Pandora’s Box. Tune in next week to see how nasty it gets.

Isna begu! Em cago en deu. Yo camelo mori, Camello. Camelo mori.
CAMELLO To Rroma woman (off-screen)
